Francophone Countries in Africa project
Voyagez en Afrique !
Objectives : -Students will gain insight into another culture through an understanding of its social practices, products, and perspectives.
-Students will recognize the connections that link people, countries, and historical periods such as cultural and religious traditions, historical events, political thought, or geography.
Overview : Students will choose a Francophone African country to research and will create a poster or power point presentation with set criteria to promote or to inform us about that country. Much classtime will be devoted to research therefore the expectation is that students use class time in a very focused manner. Four class periods will be devoted to this project. Laptops will be used for research, word processing and images.
Posters or Power Point Presentation must include :
-Title- country in French !
-Flag of the country- hand made = additional points !
-Maps of your country : one showing it in relation to Africa and one detailed of your country showing the capital.
-Include the following information in complete sentences in your own words. All information is to be typed up and handed in before it is applied to the project.
____-Leading cause of death in the country compared to in the USA
____-Infectious Diseases in the country.
____-Language(s) spoken compared to the USA
____-Important national holiday
____-Form of government
____-When colonized by the French ? When independent ?
____-Describe the weather
____-Is this country a tourist destination ? Why or Why not. Describe 3 possible tourist sites/landmarks : labelled and visual
____-Typical food or dish in comparison to food you typically eat here in Maine.
____-Exports
____-Religion(s)
____-Your choice ! State one additional interesting fact i.e. wildlife or habitat conservation.
Visuals required: maps, flag, 3 landmarks/natural wonders
Other visuals help your poster/power point ! ie people, diseases, foods, exports
Document all sources for information and pictures ! Quality product includes colorful backing to information and pictures. Typed text ! Creative border !
You will need Poster paper (not poster board !!!) 22 X 28 inches.

Day 2 : Finish video : Discussion on major differences to our culture/way of life
